~~sigh~~
Thursday 7th November...it was near the end of the working day and the manager asked to see me.
He asked me how I think I was getting on...I replied; "fine i guess"…but there was a look...a very "unhappy" look in his eyes and the smile was forced...
I pretty much knew what was going to happen next.
I was initially hired as a Salesman to be part of their expanding team however due to my lack of experience and lacking of absolute enthusiasm for cars I was place with the Valet team to hopefully boost my interest in cars...in short it didn't work.
My manager said with the most unwilling look in his eyes..."You're a great worker, you do what's needed and get on with it as if you're on a mission! But I cannot justify your earnings with what you're doing..."
I interrupted his speech..."It's ok Chief...i understand...at the end of the day, you're running a business and you have to cut unjustified losses to the company."
Manager; "I'm glad you understand, I'll still pay you to the end of the week and he you want to finish off tonight, i'll understand."
With a smile on my face...i replied, that's not my style, as long as I'm under your employment and have things to finish off, I won't leave them for someone else.
With that, we shook hands...I returned to finish off my work on the Friday and left the company 10mins early without anyone noticing.
But that's not what I told my friends and family...
I said that I left the company because my heart wasn't there...I can do the job but it would of been a matter of time before my work rate fell and the manager tells me to leave. So while still on a good streak with everyone...i decided to part...
Sometimes I'm too good at bending the truth...but does it matter? Some of my friends will understand that I deviated from the true story but won't question me in respect and care for my feelings...I think I make up the story to save a bit of face from my folks...
You see, my folks were ashamed of me working at the family restaurant because "I couldn't get a job else where", even when I ran their restaurant they were still ashamed of me because "I didn't try to find another job". So when i do find a job as a salesman...they were even more ashamed of me due me because they believe salesmen are poorly educated and are thieves...
Here, i must say...in my personal opinion...Salesmen are great sellers and quick thinkers! They are some of the most witty people I've met and they do earn a decent living! Also, to say that salesmen are poorly educated and are thieves is the most disrespectful thing ever! Most may not have a Uni degree but their knowledge of their products of what they're selling is.second ONLY to the makers of the product. In any industry, there are good and add people...calling all salesmen are thieves is nothing short of terrible! Some actually give tremendous deals but just because YOU can't afford it...it doesn't mean they're ripping you off!
It's one more laugh for me...for when my folks talk to their friends about how I...have shamed them by not having a job!
Some people cannot be pleased!
